No, you do not need a doctor’s referral for out-of-hospital physiotherapy treatment. However, if you would like to claim the session from your medical aid, please note that some funders require a doctor’s referral for authorization. This is medical aid specific.

Yes, we do. Please ensure that you have the following documents ready when making appointment: Doctor’s referral for physiotherapy (not older than 1 month), incident report (pages 1-3), copy of ID, first medical report and all progress reports.

The therapist determines the amount of sessions needed, after a full assessment has been completed. The amount may change depending on the injury of the patient, pain severity/frequency, recovery time and compliance with physiotherapy exercise prescription.

Please dress comfortably for exercise and if you have sustained an injury, please ensure the injured body part can be easily accessed by your physiotherapist, so they may assess the area that requires treatment.

  • A detailed interview on your current injury/condition and relevant history (medical and social)
  • Examination of assessment
  • Treatment (including manual therapy, exercise therapy or other modalities)
  • Exercise prescription/home program
  • Planning and follow-up appointments

The first session is usually between 45 – 60 minutes.

We align with medical aid rates. Please contact the practice if you would like more information on cash rates.

The aim of physiotherapy is to actively improve your functional capabilities, while treating your impairments (such as a loss of mobility and strength, loss of balance and coordination etc.) caused by a condition (such as lower back pain, fractures, post-surgery etc).

Therefore, some of our techniques may cause some discomfort during or after your session, however, the intention in never to hurt you. If you are in severe pain, we recommend that you consult your treating doctor for adequate pain management and take your prescribed medication and hour before your physiotherapy session.

Women’s health physiotherapy sessions are based on education you on your pelvic health and function, as well as assessing the severity and cause of your dysfunction/condition.

The session may include an internal examination if you are comfortable with it, as well as other modalities such as manual therapy, electrotherapy and exercise rehabilitation.

We know that the thought of exercising when you are already so breathless doesn’t make sense, but it will. We start off the session with a full assessment of your breathing pattern, breathing habits, breathing muscle strength as well as the breathing strategies you use when you move. In addition to this, we will make sure your chest is clear and that you know how to clear your chest independently. We may also test the strength of your leg and arm muscles, as well as your effort tolerance when walking.

Once your assessment has been completed, we design a treatment program that is specific to you and your current needs. The sessions start off slowly and you will only do what you can manage. After a few sessions, your breathing will feel easier and you will start to feel stronger. The toughest part is just getting started!
